Performative act, happening in public space, installations, photography, poem
Art Weekend Belgrade – Questions of Belonging, 2023; Various locations; Curated by Merle Radtke
This performative and participatory act with the character of a happening took place in the public space of the underground passage of Palace of Albania, as well as on open space in the immediate vicinity and around the Cultural Center of Belgrade. The work represents a call to action and reaction, overview, participation, protest and reflection of a society in which the apparent protagonist is the chair, and man is its bearer, manager, user and servant.
Through the participation, the work can be seen as a form of self-surveillance, where individuals become aware of their behavior in public space under the eye (M. Foucault) of their participants and potential audiences.
By arranging the chairs in the space imitating different settings from everyday life, a new space is opened, a hybrid, transformative space in which questions of everyday aesthetics (Y. Saito), panoptic model of society (G. Bentham) and paradox (S. Žižek) are intertwined.
